Letter to Parents
From The Commander:
I'm glad you're on our web site reviewing all that the Civil Air Patrol (CAP) has to offer. Not only do we provide an ongoing valuable public service through our Emergency Services and Aerospace Education activities, but we have a phenomenal program for kids from 12 to 18 called the "Cadet Program".
The Cadet Program offers all kinds of benefits, from reinforcing the building of a strong foundation of Integrity, Honor, Respect, and Duty to Country. Your son or daughter will build friendships, learn followership and leadership skills, and even get a chance to fly airplanes! Most cadets wish they had heard of the CAP and joined earlier - I guess that says it all.
To answer a few of the most frequently asked questions:
- There is no military commitment (for either cadets or adult CAP members). The CAP is the benevolent, non-combatant auxiliary of the United States Air Force
- Second, it is relatively inexpensive to join ($53 as I write this message) - inexpensive, especially compared to what members get from the program.
- Finally, it's easy to join and participate. Contact us (info below), or just simply show up at any meeting (dates and times also below) and tell us that you're considering joining- we're always thrilled to show new folks the ropes and get them familiar with our Squadron and the CAP in general. After you've been to a few meetings, if you think it's for you, we'll have you complete an application and you're on your way!
Be sure to call or e-mail with any questions, and we hope to see you soon!
Regards,
Capt. Laurie Rocco Commander NER-NY-273 Blackbird Squadron Civil Air Patrol United States Air Force Auxiliary
